Meeting 07

Created over 8 years ago by Thomas Ochman

Sam drew diagram for charity data
Still trying to work out how they connect to charity register - guessing that it’s still screen scraping

Rachel mentioned they found some other UK charity databases.  Notice they have search via postcode

http://www.charitychoice.co.uk/charities/search?sector=&region=&q=&distance=5&postcode=HA14LX

ACTION ITEM: Sam investigate how charity choice is maintaining their data (looks like they offer charities their own microsites for a fee)

Sam thinks that individual charity updates could be pulled one by one from opencharities, but that might miss any new ones that are created

Sam working with new “complete” list of Harrow postcodes - unclear if the postcodes are sequential - Rachel pointed out that sometimes new postcodes are created, so the complete sequence might not be present …

Sam would like to have some online listing of harrow postcodes maintained by the council

Worked up some user stories

Rachel suggested that the main need for members of public will be getting support

Interesting to think about how members of the public go about searching for support, e.g. web, phoning the council

Apparently Harrow Council maintains some internal database of charities and did previously fund the creation of an online database, but nothing got released to the public, but information gets distributed to mailing lists for people who have subscribed to them.

Rachel pointed to mindinharrow’s mental health directory as being the best example of what currently is available in harrow

http://directory.mindinharrow.org.uk/Pages/Subjects.aspx?CID=669

There is a perceived problem with keeping all of these directories up to date … makes Sam think of Ning sites like TechHui that maintain a directory … and wondering if the whole thing could be done with google login and a google app script ..

Outstanding ACTION ITEMS from last week:

Sam: work out how open charities is updating its data
Sam: get version of data for precise Harrow area
Sam: set up pivotal tracker for public web site
Sam: new user stories for the public web site
