I made my way into software engineering with the help of some MOOCs, by pair programming with others at Agile Ventures, and with a bit of luck. I live in the New York metropolitan area, and I work as an engineer at Namely.
My main concern with anything that I build is to ensure that it is well tested. Given the rate of change in the codebases I work in, tests are the only thing that keep me sane. I can't remember how that thing I built works, but my tests do. I can't tell you if this change will break something, but my tests will.
